Dentures are custom-built artificial teeth constructed out of hard resin and developed by our dentists to comfortably fit in your mouth and simulate a full set of natural teeth. Whether you require all teeth or only some teeth replaced by a denture mold, our dentists at Dentistree Family Dental Clinic can help you restore confidence back into your smile.
What types of dentures are there?
There are two general types of dentures: partial and complete dentures.

Partial dentures are custom-made molds that are used to selectively replace missing teeth, while keeping healthy, natural teeth intact.
Because these dentures only partially replace the natural teeth, they must be removed each day for cleaning to maintain proper hygiene and avoid any build-up of germs, food particles, or bacteria.
One of the downsides to having partial dentures is that the plate used to support the molded teeth can press against the gum tissue, causing sores to develop. As well, partial dentures are generally constructed out of metal that contain hooks used to grab onto your natural teeth. Because of this, the hooks can become loose and tend to require multiple adjustments throughout the year.
Nevertheless, partial dentures developed by one of our dentists can provide you with a feasible treatment option that functions to restore your natural smile and improve speech deficits that can arise from missing teeth.
Complete dentures
Complete dentures, on the other hand, can be developed by one of our dental professionals to simulate your entire set of teeth and are a feasible option for individuals who have experienced significant tooth decay or periodontal disease. Rather than replacing each tooth with surgically embedded implants, complete dentures provide a suitable and less invasive alternative.
Complete dentures depend on support provided by the upper and/or lower gum pad and generally will require a dental adhesive, which is basically a “glue” that holds your dentures in place. This means that complete dentures are essentially a permanent simulation of your natural teeth and typically do not require daily removal for cleaning.
Rather, you should treat your complete dentures as your natural teeth and maintain the usual, recommended oral hygiene routine. This includes brushing at least twice a day, flossing, and at least biannual dental cleanings by our care team at Dentistree Family Dental Clinic
Similarly, to partial dentures, the complete dentures can become loose over time. This means that complete dentures will have to be readjusted or refitted over time.
But, this is as simple as scheduling an appointment with our dental care team, and any adjustment or refitting can be performed during your next dental cleaning visit!
FAQ’s
What does the procedure look like?
When you come into our office to have your dentures applied, any teeth that require removal will be removed (e.g., all/remaining teeth removed for complete dentures). Next, an impression of your gum is taken to provide a model to construct your dentures with.
The impression is sent to a dental laboratory which processes the denture mold. You will then revisit the office to have your denture fitted, which involves testing to make sure that your bite is correct and comfortable.
After this, our dental care team will confirm whether you are happy with your new smile and if so—you’re all done! You can continue to smile, eat, and speak with confidence once again.
If getting dentures might be something you are interested in getting, call our office today to have one of our dentists provide you with a professional consult. We look forward to restoring confidence to your smile!
